The End of an Era in Chicago Television

Lynn Hauldren, the Empire Carpet spokesman, passed away today at the age of 89. He's been on TV almost my entire life. I hope they keep his voice on the jingle. He was just a familiar presence and, well, like I said, it's the end of an era.

Not just Chicago... we had those ads in the Detroit area too.

I lived in Detroit, too. Saw his Empire adds in the Allentown/Bethlehem area AND Pittsburgh now. His voice is/was always so recognizable.

All our American networks came to us from Detroit so I know well the Empire Carpet adds and I am sad to hear of his death. A true pitchman who had enough confidence in his product to let it speak for itself. I miss those old, cheaply made commericals with the personal touch.

I was bummed when they made the transition to the animated version of him, but I still loved hearing his voice.

My ex-wife met him; her dad had a boat, and his dock slot was next to Mr. Hauldren's. Said he was a nice guy.
