Splotchy hipped me to a Metafilter article about the pipes Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Don Sahlin and Jerry Juhl decorated while waiting to appear on The Jack Paar Program.
I'd read about the pipes in, I believe, Jim Henson: The Works several years ago. I'm touched to see that NBC has finally decided to preserve the pipes and make them a part of the 30 Rock tour. (The building, not the show.) And I have a little more respect for Jimmy Fallon, since he's apparently the one who urged NBC to preserve them.
There are some great video links on the Metafilter article. You should really click on them.

You will also see something similar in the rarely used outside queue at the Muppet Vision 3D attraction at Disney's Hollywood studios. From my understanding the pipes at the attraction were inspired by the pipes at 30 rock.
I remember Paar showing them to David Letterman years ago when Letterman was still on NBC.
Richard: Oh, neat. I didn't know that; I never get to go any of these places.
Dr. Monkey: I just saw that on YouTube yesterday. The Metafilter article linked to that and a couple of other videos. There's a new one of Frank Oz, the last of the foursome still living, being shown the pipes again. It's very touching.
Evanier wrote about this, with links to Paar and the new Oz bits
