Song of the Week: "Sukiyaki"

Kyu Sakamoto, 1961. One of the best of the best of the best songs ever recorded.

I love that song!

Have you ever looked up its history? I was looking it up on Wikipedia a while back and discovered that the name "Sukiyaki" had been tacked onto it for its US release because that was about the only Japanese word most Americans knew.

BTW, Kyu Sakamoto died in the 1985 crash of Flight 123 outside of Tokyo.
