If Apple is so goddamn miraculous and wonderful, how come it's hit-or-miss that, after plugging it into the computer, I'll actually be able to get my iPod to turn off normally? And why do I see so many other people having the same problem on message boards across the internet? I mean, Apple products are supposed to be simple, which seems to be their magical appeal, so what's the problem here? You know who's going to impress me? The company that actually makes products that work the way they're supposed to.

samurai you ARE my hero
i thought i was the ONLY person who couldnt figure out this whole Apple/Ipod software shutoff thing
i think the whole thing is unbelievably confusing and difficult -- i cant download, i cant make playlists, i can never safely turn off et al...
i has gotten so bad that i never put the ipod in the computer and just listen to the same 2600 songs over and over.
8-)
no, really -- i think their software SUCKS
Sorry you're having problems, but I'm glad someone's backing me up here! Sometimes it works fine, others it just won't shut off and I have to either drain the battery or put it in another device that'll shut off. This happens every time I plug it into the computer. Man, I hate Apple, maybe even more than I hate Sony. No, not more. Sony tried to destroy my computer.
I like my mac, but for the amount I paid for it, it gets buggy way to often....
I guess I'm alone here in that 980 times out of a thousand, my Apple stuff works the way it's supposed to. Between my two personal ones, my iPod, and the 5 I've got at work, I don't seem to have those issues.
Hell, I use my Mac to correct problems with files that were created in Windows computers that Windows computers can't open.
I had to take a new iMac back after it overheated and powered down every 45 minutes, but the replacement works just fine.
I think there's no guarantee that every single product that comes off the line will work 100% 100% of the time, but I'm surprised you're having that much trouble.
I've had the same problem, I find that if I scroll through a few menus, or even start a song, then pause it, then try to turn it off, that usually works.
Don't get me wrong, it's still irritating, but it's less of a hassles than draining the battery and whatnot.
Sorry you're having troubles with your Ipod. I've have 4 ipods so far (selling the old ones to upgrade - not for any faults), and haven't had any major problems with any of them.
Did the support forums show you any solutions? Which ipod model do you have? Is this a windows-only problem? Might be a need for a firmware fix somewhere down the line. Email me if you want some more help.
AB: Man, that sucks.
Carl: You Mac fags can't even fathom a Mac not working, can you? Can you? You bastards! I hope Steve Jobs tastes good in your mouth, you sellout! I mean, um... deep breaths...
Mob: I tried all of that stuff. I even rebooted it, too. I finally plugged it back into the computer for a while, and then took it out again. It still wouldn't shut off, but it did read that it wasn't playing anything and shut off on its own.
PJ: Again, I see this problem an awful lot in online forums. It seems that this especially coincides with any iPod or iTunes software updates. Any support forums I found for it were community sites and not on the Apple forums, oddly enough.
Thanks for the offer; I'll let you know.
See, that's how uninitiated WOULD react! It's not Steve we're sucking off, but Wozniak!
Uh, I mean... I'M NOT GAY! YOU ARE!
Heh, heh. Showed you...
Of course, Woz is rarely available for that day in and day out, so in those cases, Justin Long gets some deep throat love. Think about that.
Please scoop out my brain so I never have to think of that again.
Just think about Lucy Pinder's nipples... just think about Lucy Pinder's nipples.
That should wipe that image out of your mind.
